6 Most Common Kubota L2501 Problems and Their Possible Solutions:

If you own a Kubota L2501, you may experience problems often. Here are some of the common Kubota L2501 problems and how to solve them.

1. Starting Problems

While using a bush hog, the mower may bog it down, and the engine shuts off. Although the starting will run, the engine won’t turn over.

This implies, it might behave strangely and spin but not turn over as if the battery were dead.

Alternatively, the solenoid may click, but the starter may not operate. However, the battery is usually fine in these cases. Usually, the problem is with the solenoid or the starter.

The Fix:

Take the mower to your dealer for the starter repair. But if the problem is with the solenoids, tighten the terminal nuts on the starter solenoid’s big copper posts.

The battery and starter cables will often get released from the copper posts due to engine overheating. It breaks the connection.

Overloading the tractor is another scenario that is conceivable. 5 HP per foot of mower width is a general guideline for bush hogs.

A 4 foot bush hog would likely be appropriate given your tractor’s under 25 HP, but you should be able to get away with a 5′ cutter.

However, you must go slowly with heavy cutting.

2. Slow Loader Issues

A L2501 has a 2,204 psi pressure. A task requiring greater power would represent the shortcoming. You may face sluggish loaders while cutting dense grass, mowing uphill, using chippers and other PTO attachments, etc. Even though some of these tasks might take longer to do, it is not impossible.

For instance, an L2501 HST with a LA525 loader can only handle 1100 pounds. After running for several hours, the tractor can only lift the same object a few inches off the ground. And it may often fail.

In addition, you may also notice some smoking from the exhaust. The L2501 is weak at height and should only be used on flat ground or downhill with no significant weights.

The Fix:

The design of the Kubota L2501 is such that it cannot handle high-energy requirement tasks even with proper rated loaders. However, you can try changing with a different HP engine. But it’s better to stick to tasks suitable for this one.

Another reason why the loader might be stalling your mower on high setup is that your brakes are sticking. Don’t forget to engage your parking brakes.

3. Problem with PTO Disengagement

A fairly common problem with Kubota L-series tractors is the problem of the PTO disengagement. The PTO should be disengaged by pulling back on the lever when you’re finished using your implement.

Furthermore, the tool should wind down and cease turning as soon as your foot is removed from the clutch.

However, the PTO shaft turns once more as soon as your foot is released from the clutch, moving the lever back to disengage.

The main reason for this problem is either the cable is misadjusted or gunk in a cable shaft is running through the transmission.

The Fix:

A shaft goes on from the PTO lever to the transmission. It gets quite dirty and gets glued up. The gunk should be thoroughly cleaned.

Lubing the cable and ends can fix the problem. It ensures that everything could move freely. The lubricant should be sprayed properly. Check this video to do the proper troubleshooting.

4. Hitch Issues

In case of any implement that has a little weight on the back of the tractor, it would affect the front loader when being lifted all the way up. Additionally, it would be slow or non-functional when moved.

The Fix:

Due to the dump features of the machine, this setup becomes a problem on the hitch.

For example, if you lift up to the highest position for the three-point hitch and try to lift up, you should be able to move it. So avoid the problematic setup.

5. Rusting Issues

The rusting issue is very common with these models. You may notice the rusting starting from 6 months to two years of the purchase. Rusting usually starts with the body. Then you see the nuts and bolts getting rusted.

The rust is from deep within and the hood is the most common part with rusting. Then hoses and floorboards come to play.

The Fix:

Painting and making rubber cover boards for rusting parts such as the floorboards is an option. Pick the pain with a rust-free formula. Do not cheap out on this step.

6. Miscellaneous Problems

The hydraulics are drastically out of tune; they lack power severely. Also, compared to greater economy HP L series Kubota tractors, the backhoe seating is smaller.

The tractor also lacks a front locker or a limited differential. The third valve or hydraulic lines are exposed, like with all smaller mowers, and there is no undercarriage shield.

However, it is not a small mower. So it is expected to give a better performance and architecture.

The Fix:

Most of these issues are due to the design of the model. It is by default. The L2501 is easy to get overworked. So be careful and be selective about the tasks you do with it.

What Majority of the Users Feel?

The L2501 is an excellent machine. It’s a very capable tractor that is excellent, and the absence of emissions is an added advantage. But if your funds permit, you might need to move up to the next level.

It has the marks of the new models of Kubota tractors while being the largest of the lot. It works well for clearing wooded areas as well as for building and maintaining trails.

The seat however, has a non-adjustable back. It is the machine’s one of the main flaws. Drivers have no back support at all and the back is too far. It feels like a bar stool.

You might not be able to reach the steering wheel with your arms either. Additionally, it is really challenging to loosen and tighten the 3pt-position control stop knob because of its location. Finally, the location of the fuel cap is also problematic.

The filler neck tends to collect debris, and a 5-gallon jug is difficult to use for fuel. Although this tractor lacks electronics and regeneration systems, its simplicity is commendable.

So, in addition to the common problems discussed here, the owners have reported these statements.
