What are the Solutions of Husqvarna Lawn Mower Carburetor Problems?

The carburetor from the Husqvarna lawn mower makes sure an efficient mixture of air and fuel before entering the engine and running your mower properly. However, sometimes the carburetor gets jammed with the residue of gummy duel or other dirt. It can also get damaged with time.

When this happens, your mower will face different problems. Clogged carburetor, wrong air and fuel ratio, engine running lean, rough ride – all of these issues can happen for the faulty carburetor.

In this article, I will discuss the Husqvarna lawn mower carburetor problems and the possible solutions.

6 Problems with Husqvarna Lawn Mower Carburetor and Their Solutions

Check out these Husqvarna lawn mower carburetor problems and solutions in detail below:

1. The engine has trouble starting

If your Husqvarna mower doesn’t start at all or does face troubles while starting, you may have a dirty carburetor.

The fuel cannot flow to the engine when the carburetor is clogged with dirt and bad fuel deposits. Hence, it doesn’t get the power.

To fix this problem, remove the metal components and clean the carburetor. If cleaning the carburetor still doesn’t work, replace it.

2. Engine Starts And Then Stalls

Another major problem you can face with a clogged carburetor is that your mower will start but stop. Apart from other dirt, the carburetor can get clogged if you leave fuel for a long period of time.

The ingredients of fuel evaporate over time and leave thicker substances behind. Thus, this sticky fuel clogs the carburetor. That’s why it’s equally important not to leave old fuel in the mower as cleaning the carburetor.

3. Engine Running Lean

This is not a single problem. You’ll see different symptoms if your mower engine is running lean.

For example, the engine won’t accelerate, will have less power, and many more. The engine can even backfire. It happens when there is much air in the engine, and the fuel-air ratio becomes inappropriate as a result.

When you face these problems, you should check the carburetor. If it is clogged, you should clean it. If it is damaged, repair it or replace it.

4. Black Smoke

Your mower can emit black smoke when the engine receives more fuel than the required amount. This phenomenon is known as engine running rich.

If the carburetor float needle gets damaged, the carburetor can get flooded with fuel.

Check float needles and seats if they are in good condition and installed properly. Adjust the floating settings.

Black smoke is an alarming problem. So, always troubleshoot this as soon as possible.

5. Increase in Fuel Consumption

A clogged carburetor can cause poor fuel economy. So if you see an increase in fuel consumption with the normal use of the mower, diagnose the carburetor for possible faults.

6. Mower Runs Rough

If your Husqvarna mower is running rough while mowing, the first component to check is the carburetor. A clogged carburetor is the main culprit for this problem.

How To Clean the Husqvarna Lawn Mower Carburetor?

As you have seen, most of the carburetor problems need the carburetor to be cleaned. Knowing how to clean it will help you to fix these problems.

If you are not a mechanic, it’s better to clean the carburetor without completely removing it. So, let’s see step by step how to clean the Husqvarna carburetor.

Remove The Outer Components:

A better visual of the carburetor is necessary to clean it properly. Hence, remove the air filter, the fuel lines and unscrew the jets to access the carburetor. You’ll need a screwdriver, a nose plier, and a wrench for this.

Remove the screws that secure the air filter with the screwdriver to take it out. Then take the help of the nose plier to remove the fuel line.

Keep a bucket with you so that you can drain the fuel in it when you are removing the fuel line. All these fuels need to be disposed of as they can be the main source of dirt.

Now use the wrench to unscrew the bolt under the carburetor bowl. Then remove the bowl and slowly remove the gaskets. But that secures the bowl is the main jet.

Press the float to check if it is in good condition. It will give a clicking sound when you press it if it is good. Keep the bowel and the jet separately.

Clean The Outer Components:

These outer components can build up debris which can clog the carburetor. So, it’s a good idea to clean them. Use soap water to clean the air filter.

Clean the jet with a thin wire. Sandpaper or aerosol cleaner can also be used. If the bowl has built up excessive debris, you better replace it.

Spray Cleaner to the Interior

Finally, spray aerosol cleaner to clean the carburetor’s interior effectively. Using a compressed air gun will make the work easier for you.

Pour the cleaner at the center of the carburetor with the engine running. It will spread the liquid entirely through the jets.

Reassemble The Parts

Reassemble the parts just like the way you dissembled them. In case you cannot remember the disassembly, record the steps with your mobile.

Is Cleaning The Carburetor Enough?

No, only cleaning the carburetor won’t keep you out of all problems. You should purchase a carburetor repair kit so that you can replace the major components like the float needle, gaskets, and diaphragms.

When cleaning the carburetor doesn’t help, you should consider replacing some of the worn parts.

What Can I Use Instead of Carburetor Cleaner?

A brake cleaner is a good replacement for a carburetor cleaner. It evaporates once it is dry. So, you can use it when the carburetor cleaner is not available.

Final Words

Now that you know the Husqvarna lawn mower carburetor problems, you will easily be able to fix them. But remember, every component of a lawnmower needs regular maintenance to provide high efficiency.

The carburetor is no exception. If the mower gets exposed to dirt frequently and you don’t take care of it, there is a high possibility that the mower will start malfunctioning. That’s why it’s important to clean the carburetor regularly
